Imagenes Medicas is a well-established medical equipment distributor based in Mexico, boasting over 30 years of experience in the industry. Their extensive product line includes X-rays, mammography equipment, digital detectors, digitizers, medical printers, contrast media injectors, in vitro diagnostic tools, and dental equipment. With a robust market presence and a longstanding reputation for quality and reliability, Imagenes Medicas has been a trusted partner in the medical field, providing essential equipment to various healthcare facilities across the region.

Overcoming Operational Hurdles in Modern Laboratories

Despite their success in distributing medical equipment, Imagenes Medicas identified significant inefficiencies in the laboratory operations of their clients. Laboratories were struggling with managing patient studies, communicating with DICOM systems, and handling day-to-day administrative tasks. Existing software solutions were fragmented and inadequate, leading to manual data handling, increased operational costs, delays in patient study processing, and ultimately, lower customer satisfaction. The challenge was to develop an integrated software solution that could streamline these operations, enhance communication with DICOM systems, and improve overall efficiency.

DICOM Explained: DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is a standard protocol used for the management and transmission of medical imaging information and related data. It ensures the interoperability of medical imaging devices and systems, enabling the seamless exchange of medical images and associated information. In the medical industry, DICOM is crucial for facilitating the integration of imaging devices such as X-rays, MRI, and CT scanners with other healthcare systems, allowing for efficient image storage, retrieval, and sharing.

Innovative SaaS for Seamless Laboratory Management

To address these challenges, Imagenes Medicas partnered with our firm to conceptualize and develop iMedPACS, a comprehensive SaaS solution designed to streamline laboratory operations and enhance communication with DICOM systems. The project was executed using UX/UI processes and Agile SCRUM methodology, with a dedicated SCRUM team assigned to oversee the entire development process.

Development Process: The collaboration began with a series of workshops involving Imagenes Medicas' technical department, where we identified key requirements and conceptualized the product. Using agile methodologies, we ensured iterative development and continuous feedback, allowing us to refine features and functionalities throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Features of iMedPACS:

Patient Management: iMedPACS allows users to register patients, schedule studies, assign studies, and view patient histories. This centralizes patient data and streamlines the scheduling and tracking of medical studies.

1. Study Management: Users can assign studies to patients and specialists, connect with DICOM systems to receive images, assign interpretations to studies, and monitor payment statuses. This feature ensures efficient handling of medical studies and improves coordination among medical staff.

3. • The system sends a txt file to a shared folder to add the patient to the worklist, with an option to select registered technicians. Completed studies are automatically moved to another folder, and images are sent to radiologists. Technicians can manually associate DICOM image series to patients if the worklist is unavailable, ensuring flexibility and accuracy in data handling.

Technical Implementation: The platform was developed using modern technologies including React for the front-end, KeystoneJS for the back-end, Railway for deployment, and PostgreSQL for database management. These technologies ensured a robust, scalable, and efficient solution capable of handling the complex needs of laboratory operations.

Roles and Permissions: iMedPACS supports multiple roles, including internal operators and clients, with specific permissions tailored to their needs. This ensures secure access to sensitive information and appropriate allocation of tasks and responsibilities.
